You can find the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped on a plate on the inner vertical surface of the left windshield pillar which is visible through the windshield.

1969 corvette 427

The first number indicated Chevrolet.
The second and third symbols will indicate the body series (94 = Corvette).
The fourth and fifth symbols will indicate the body style number (67 = convertible, 37 = coupe).
The sixth symbol will indicate the model year (9 = 1969).
The seventh symbol will indicate the assembly plant (S = St. Louis, Mo.).
The last of the symbols indicate the production number.

Engine codes were as follows:

  • HY = 350 cid, 300 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and manual transmission
  • HZ = 350 cid, 300 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission
  • HW = 350 cid, 350 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and manual transmission
  • LL = 427 cid, 390 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and THM automatic transmission
  • LM = 427 cid, 390 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and manual transmission
  • LO = 427 cid, 430 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and manual transmission
  • LP = 427 cid, 435 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and manual transmission
  • LQ = 427 cid, 400 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and manual transmission
  • LR = 427 cid, 435 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and manual transmission
  • LT = 427 cid, 435 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and manual transmission
  • LU = 427 cid, 435 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and manual transmission
  • LV = 427 cid, 430 horsepower V8, four barrel carb and THM automatic transmission
  • LW = 427 cid, 435 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and THM automatic transmission
  • LX = 427 cid, 435 horsepower V8, three two barrel carbs and THM automatic transmission

Corvette engines have the last six symbols of the VIN number stamped on the block next to the engine number.
